About This Game A serial killer is terrorizing the streets of Victorian London, and private investigator Sydney Emerson has hit a new low between finding lost dogs and receiving alleyway beatings. A turn of events sees Sydney forgoing his selfish nature and thrusting himself into perilous and increasingly surreal situations, treading a fine line between dreams and reality. Explore the foggy streets of Victorian London in all its decadence and depravity, searching the slums, taverns, brothels and even Sydney’s abstract dreamscapes for clues, while meeting a host of interesting, insane and eccentrically British characters along the way.Features•A noir adventure laced with adult themes and dark humour.•A faithful recreation of Victorian London, from decadence to depravity.•Classic point and click gameplay in the vein of the LucasArts games of yore.•Explore Sydney’s surreal dream-world for clues.•Follow the trail of a killer, or drink until you vomit at the pub.•Original soundtrack blends film noir and traditional Victorian instruments. 7aa9394dea Title: The Slaughter: Act OneGenre: Adventure, IndieDeveloper:BrainchildPublisher:BrainchildRelease Date: 28 Jan, 2016 The Slaughter: Act One Download Under 1gb it's well made, maybe not the best you can find but it has some charms, great dialogs, caracters are funworth playing. Very competent adventure game, exquisitely written. The script puts most games in the entire Steam library to shame. Delicious period writing, entertaining and modernised just enough to read easily. The path through the game is linear, but it's such a good yarn, and manages to grip and move you from its earliest scenes; quite a feat since you don't know the characters yet. Characterization goes from witty caricature to subtle, sometimes chilling subtext, with a few good laughs in the mix.And there are some grotesque, disturbing passages in here. This game was not made for kids, that is for sure. The music is very good and sets a great ambience, I'm tempted to buy it from Bandcamp. All of the usual pitfalls were avoided:- no waiting around for the character to move excruciatingly slowly to another screen: you can double-click the exit.- no unskippable dialogue unfolding at a snail's pace, you can click through text once you've read it and there's no voice acting. A better choice than in, say, Technobabylon, where it was mostly wasted resources.Even so the runtime exceeds 3 hours and those are packed with good adventuring.- no fixed resolution, the art looks great even in full-screen at 1440p.- no stupid button to display every clickable item in the scene, a design shortcut that often points to faulty design and makes up for bad signposting or an overwhelming number of futile interactions.- no frustrating pixel hunt or inventory absurdity. Some leaps of logic but they are amusing and don't halt you for long.TLDR: A perfect game for All Hallows' Eve, suitable all year long of course if you are, like me, ever susceptible to the titillation of late-Victorian gloom and Ripper fiction. I hope to play through Act II before autumn next.. Despite only being the first act of the game, with roughly four chapters and a prologue, I managed to still spend around three hours in The Slaughter. Considering that this is only a portion of the planned final release that’s actually a pretty good length of time. If there was one problem that I had with my experience it was that I wanted more. How does Sydney escape his current situation? Will the killer catch up to him? What will he do when he’s confronted with his demons, both internal and external? Will he discover a love of wearing women’s clothing (play the game, you’ll see what I mean)? And, frankly if this is my only problem then it’s most certainly worth playing. I just can’t wait for the next installment to be released.http://cliqist.com/2016/01/29/the-slaughter-is-a-victorian-murder-mystery-masterpiece/. The story is great. A lot of David Lynch's influence in the dream sequences it seems. The graphics and style bring back nostalgia from the Lucas Art era, and the dialogs are just as or even more funny. That being said, the sound stops working if you minimize it. And the UI is appalling. The puzzles are pretty bland. The navigation system is worse than amateur (basically if there's an obstacle in the way instead of 1 click it will take several to get around). Also the character walks to the object just to describe it or to give the "this won't work" generic line. There is more good than bad in this game, I just hope the dev will polish it further in the next instalment.. I like it, so far!. Games got a nice retro feel and a good story. It has some adult content so if you played broken sword, discworld and monkey island as a kid but are now grown up you'll like this.
